Africa is one of four operating regions of Newmont Mining, the world’s leading gold business. Newmont Africa has two gold mining operations in Ghana: The Ahafo and Akyem mines. The company also has Greenfield exploration activities in Ethiopia. Reserves stood at 12 million gold equivalent ounces as at December 2018. In October 2019, Newmont Africa’s Ahafo’s Mill Expansion achieved commercial production on budget and within schedule. Combined with Subika Underground, which was successfully completed in November 2018, the mill expansion will increase Ahafo’s production to between 550,000 and 650,000 ounces per year through 2024.
